Meals 109-115

04/18 i came back to my hotel rather late after a day of catching up with friends and was starving for a quick, simple, comforting meal. and since it's monday.....i needed something "meatless". lucky for me, just around the corner of my hotel was s'mac. this box? this box that looks like an innocent pizza box?

is filled with macaroni and cheese!!! s'mac stands for "sarita's macaroni and cheese". a brilliant restaurant, with nothing but mac and cheese on the menu. there should be on of these in every city! you can get all different kinds. a version with buffalo sauce, chicken and bleu cheese. a version with gruyere and bacon. even an "indian" version with curry and veggies. i opted for the very simple and classic "4 cheese" beauty. and got it to go so i could lounge in the comfort of my adorable and dinky hotel room. a perfect way to end the evening!

04/19 tonight i was back at my old stomping grounds near broadway this evening. first to meet my dear friend ashley for dinner, then off to see a show. we went to a pub-style place called "the long room" on 44th street. my friend recommended the "turkey brie" burger to me, so i took her advice. and was very happy i ddi! normally i'm not a fan of turkey burgers. they're often bland and dry.  but this one was fantastic! the burger itself was almost more like a slice of meatloaf. i have no idea how they prepared it, but it was wonderfully juicy and flavorful. but the toppings are what made this entity so delicious. melted brie, fig jam and slices of green apple. any combination of fig and brie is always wonderful, but the addition of the tart green apple really took this up a notch! i will have to remember this combination for future recipes.....

04/20 dinner tonight was a quick stop back at the family compound on my way from new york back to virginia. my mom had picked up some crab cakes from a local pizza place. strange though it sounds, this small pizza place wedged into a nothing-special strip mall has some of THE BEST crab cakes in all of maryland. just one of those giant crab cakes paired with a side greek salad make for a gourmet meal. and a perfect fuel for me to continue on my journeys! i would've posted a picture....but i ate the crab cake too quickly....

04/21-tony was out of town for work tonight, so i trolled through my recipes to see what could be pared down for a "meal for one" and came up with a shrimp alfredo bake. large peeled shrimp baked in a small dish with whole wheat rotini, a "slimmed down" alredo sauce, a handful of diced tomatoes and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. since the main dish was so rich? for a side i made a simple green salad with a light balsamic dressing.

04/22-my plans for dinner tonight changed last minute when a friend from out of town called! this was the same woman who brought us our lil roommate cash. so i definitely wanted the chance to catch up in person. i met daliah at a local lebanese restaurant where we each ordered the "chef's  platter". a combination of vegetarian appetizers. the plate looked like a tic tac toe board....nine different dishes. each a small bite of mediterranean deliciousness!

04/23-as i mentioned, there will be the occasional night during this year-long endeavor that i will skip my menu plans, and opt for a cupcake. tonight was one of those night. i am still unpacking from new york, and now re-packing for sedona. so when i got the invitation for a friend's birthday party? it made for a nice break away from my suitcase. her mom had made a TON of cupcakes for the occasion, so i snuck away a strawberry and cream cupcake for my nightly meal. no shame!

04/24 i am now in arizona! i had an unforgivably early flight this morning, and am fighting off a little bit of a cold, so am keeping things simple tonight. the place that i'm staying at, sedona rouge, offers a free "small plate" every night at happy hour for guests staying there. their small plates make for a perfectly sized light dinner. and they had so many options! tonight i went with the scallop tacos. small sweet bay scallops on flour tortillas with diced tomatoes and cotija cheese. what made these so tasty was the spicy sour cream drizzle on top!

**sorry this post is a little late!!! i've been lost in the wilds of sedona, so am just now catching up on my back-log of editing posts. more to come soon, i will post all of my tales of sedona and it's beauty separately!
