East Coast Bucket List-#17-21

maryland, my maryland.

i haven't been a full time resident of aberdeen maryland in almost two decades. but it is still, and always will be my "hometown". after the moving van was packed and nearly all my worldly possessions sent off to a storage unit out west, i was fortunate to have the time to spend a little over two weeks at my parent's house. enjoying family time, and reminding myself of the joys of harford county.

this is the point of the "king seat", an impressive cliff at northern harford county's rocks state park. i remember spending many a sunny day of my youth coming here to climb around on these rocks and enjoy the view.

a little view of why this park is so aptly named! there are impressive rock formations everywhere you turn.

my niece suzana was in town on summer break from university, and she was willing to suffer the heat and humidity of the day to join me on my hike. one thing i will not be missing about the mid-atlantic? the humidity. oof.

a few days later i ventured to the other state park in the county, susquehanna state park. a beautiful park that runs along the side of the river just before it turns into the chesapeake bay. we finally had a break in the heat this day, so it made for a perfect afternoon of enjoying the water and trees!

at the northern most point of the park is the connowingo dam. in all the time i've spent in this park, i don't think i had ever followed the trails this far north! i remember spending a summer when i was 12 at an environmental science camp near to hear, studying the ecosystem of the river and surrounding areas. some of my favorite childhood memories!

before today there were some impressive rainstorms. you can see here how high and muddy the water is.

a gorgeous view over the river....with perfect fluffy white clouds!

the historic water mill of the park...

on a very drizzly saturday i met up with a friend to do a boat tour of baltimore's inner harbor. she works here on weekends as a bartender, so was able to sneak me on to one of their rides!

the iconic domino sugar sign of baltimore. i went to undergrad not far from here, and spent many nights walking the inner harbor and appreciating the water front.

my final days at home wouldn't be complete without enjoying the finest culinary treat maryland has to offer....blue crabs!!! i know that seattle had dungeons crabs, but really, they aren't the same. the meat of the blue crab is so sweet! and tender! i will miss these creepy looking little guys.

and good blue crab cakes. these are from riverside pizzaria. which is nowhere near the side of any river. and i've never actually had their pizza. but their crab cakes are some of the best you will ever find! perfectly broiled and served with a crazy good greek salad. this will be one of the first places i will ask to go on my visits home!

*for those wondering about the items on my bucket list NOT mentioned in the blog? they were mostly day trips (my darling old neighborhood of old town alexandria), restaurants (old ebbit, omg....oysters....yum) and hikes, so i tried to pick out the most noteworthy of events to chronicle!

next up with be the adventures of a girl and her hound on the open road, driving from east coast to west! seattle here we come!!!
